SAND DUNE DREAMSCAPE
RUNNER UP— Best Bedroom
For thirty years, their bedroom had been an afterthought. An oversized room that was disconnected, with marooned furniture, and a yellow-stained faux-finish ceiling. This redesign transformed it into a serene, sand-dune-dreamscape shaped by the hush of the shoreline.
The room was reorganized into three distinct moments: sleep, ritual, and retreat. A newly defined bed wall brings balance and focus, while a burled vanity captures the morning light and a linen chaise creates a quiet place to unwind.
To make the large room feel more enveloping, a husk-textured grasscloth feature wall, silk rug, linen drapery, and layered textiles introduce softness, warmth, and intimacy. French oak flooring replaced the expected marble, grounding the space with natural texture and a quieter acoustic quality.
A restrained palette of linen, silk, oak, and burled wood now gives the room a sense of calm continuity.
This couple asked for one room refresh and got three: a place for deep rest, slow morning ritual, and the final pause before sleep. What was once an afterthought is now the quiet hour at the shore. Some things are worth the wait.
